Not sure how to log in?

In this guide, I’ll show you how to log in to SharePoint Online easily, handle some issues, and more.

Let’s get started.

How to Access SharePoint Online

Accessing SharePoint Online is simple and quick.

The fastest way to do it is to enter your organization’s SharePoint site URL in the browser, which looks something like this:

https://[yourorganization].sharepoint.com

That will bring you to the sign-in page:

Enter your email address and your correct password and if prompted, complete any additional security steps like MFA.

After that, you will land on the home site of your organization’s SharePoint.

Alternatively, you can also go to the Microsoft 365 portal at https://www.office.com and log in with your credentials.

From there, you can then find SharePoint in the app launcher:

For quick access in the future, bookmark the SharePoint page or pin it in your browser.

    Handling Common Login Scenarios

Sometimes logging into SharePoint Online comes with a few challenges.

Here’s how to manage common situations:

    Managing Multiple Accounts

It’s easy to switch between them as you can simply sign out of the current account and sign in with another account.

Once you enter those credentials, you will be able to easily choose through them on the sign-in page:

multiple accounts in the sign in page

But if you need to manage separate accounts at the same time, you might want to use different browsers for each.

This way, you will be able to use them together and keep your sessions active without having to log out on the current one.

    Dealing with MFA

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security.

When it’s activated, you will see a verification window when trying to log in:

Take note that how you set up the MFA matters here, which can be done with phone, email, or an authenticator app.

If you’re using an app like Microsoft Authenticator, tap “Approve” and enter the code/number shown to verify.

Make sure your device is charged and accessible when logging in.

If you’re not receiving the code, confirm that your account settings have the correct contact information.

    Troubleshooting Login Issues

Unfortunately, you might encounter login issues when trying to log in to SharePoint Online.

I suggest you try these things first:

    • Check your credentials
    • Reset your password
    • Clear browser cache
    • Contact IT support

If you manage or create a lot of accounts, it’s likely browser cache as it can cause conflict during login.

Make sure your account hasn’t been locked due to multiple failed attempts.

If MFA isn’t working, double-check your device or authentication settings and that your account isn’t locked.
